Student participation has always been a cornerstone of the Arctic Workshop. We encourage student participation – primarily PhD Students – through providing support for students who make a presentation (oral or poster) at the workshop. Student support is possible thanks to general support for the workshop from the University of Bergen and the Norwegian Research Council, as well as specific support for students thanks to the Norwegian Research School in Climate Dynamics (“ResClim”) and the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research.
Support is provided: (1) Indirectly to all student presenters through discounted/subsidized registration fees, and (2) Directly to selected student presenters who apply and receive support to cover their overnight accommodations during the workshop. ResClim members can also apply for support for their travel costs to Bergen from elsewhere within Norway (e.g., Oslo, Tromsø or Longyearbyen).
All student presenters
Indirect support is provided to all student presenters:
Discounted rate for registration: 300 NOK instead of 900 NOK
Cost of registration for student presenters includes:
- Abstract submittal
- Registration packet including USB drive with Program & Abstracts
- Icebreaker reception on Sunday evening
- Student social event on Monday evening
- Lunch and beverages on Monday and Tuesday
- Snacks and beverages during breaks
- Wireless internet guest pass
And those who opt for the banquet dinner will get in for another 300 NOK – another good deal.

Free accommodation: Direct support for students who need accommodations during the conference, but who prefer not to pay the high prices for hotels in Bergen. This offer for support is valid for all students from abroad or in Norway (except those already in Bergen). We have enough to support a substantial – but not unlimited – number of students; so first-come, first-served until the slots run out.
For those who apply for and receive this support, we will book and cover your costs for overnighting from Sunday May 10 through Thursday May 14 (up to 4 nights). Those who receive this support will not need to pay for the overnighting – we will be invoiced and pay on your behalf. Accommodation will be in shared rooms in the centrally located Thon Hotel Bristol.
APPLY for this free accommodation support via email: ArcticWS2015@gmail.com. First-come, first-served. (“Første mann til mølla”)
ResClim student members only: APPLY for extra travel support via email: ArcticWS2015@gmail.com. Please provide a specified cost estimate for your round-trip travel from Oslo, Tromsø or Longyearbyen.
